What is a lockout fork on mountain bike?

The lockout is a switch/lever on one of the tubes in your MTB fork that once turned makes your fork rigid. Some forks have what is called remote lockout - the lever is placed on the handlebar and thus you don't need to reach down at the fork to operate it.

Should I be using all my fork travel?

If you're riding fairly mild terrain, it's normal to not use all of your travel. You could soften up the fork to use more travel, but you might find that it's too soft.

How much travel can my MTB handle?

Normally trail bikes have up to 140mm of travel. They straddle the line between harder DH-orientated riding and cross-country style riding which means that they have more travel than a full-on XC bike, but less than more hardcore-specific rides.

Is 130mm travel enough for Enduro?

If you want a do it all bike, 130mm is where it's at. But If you definately have no interest in xc and only want to ride gravity then I'd go something bigger, I've ridden a trek remedy around mystic MTB park and it ripped, it pedalled almost as well uphill, definately not a problem there.

When should I lock my mountain bike forks?

Usually the only times you would lock out your rear shock (or front fork) would be when on a long non-technical climb, or other long distance ride. Mountain bike suspension often features multiple modes, to better set up the bike to climb or descend, and one of these common features is the lock out.

Can you use wd40 on bike suspension?

WD-40 should only be used to free up frozen parts like old shifters and/or derailleurs that have been abused. It can also be used as a degreaser on bearings before repacking with grease. Otherwise keep in the garage AWAY from your bike. There are better products to use on your bike and NO 3 in 1 oil is NOT one of them.

Is 100mm fork travel enough?

A 100mm full suspension 29er is going to be able to shred anything you can throw at it for a long time. That's a good amount of travel to start with, and on a 29er it's going to feel like even more while staying efficient. The epic has a really well balanced geometry as well.

Is 120mm travel enough for trail?

In addition, you're not likely to notice much difference between a 120mm, 130mm, and 140mm fork. Honesty, a 120mm fork is enough travel for most Trail riders. Longer travel doesn't necessarily mean better.

Is 160mm travel too much for trail riding?

160mm of travel is only really needed if you're hitting big hucks, or you're smashing really long bouldery fast descents. I ride Inners DH trails, golfie, etc regularly, and I don't need 160mm of travel at all.

Is 100mm travel enough for trail riding?

For basic trail riding I would recommend something closer to 120mm as most 100mm bikes are xc race bikes and likely won't be as fun on most trails. If you want to do any drops or impacts then 100mm isn't enough. You'll bottom out every time.

Is 100mm travel enough on a 29er?

100mm hard tail 29er is enough for all that riding.

What does travel mean on MTB?

Mountain biking travel refers to how far moving parts move or “travel” and is usually measured in millimeters (mm). Travel used to refer specifically to the mountain bike (MTB) suspension, but now also includes the dropper seatpost.
